Interesting Experience to Say the Least

The location was great for us and what we had planned. The checking experience was very easy and pleasant. However, the room had some issues with the plumbing as the shower wouldn't drain, the bed was very hard and uncomfortable for our preferences, and not sure what bugs bit us but we got munched on during the night and had multiple bumps. It is of course in the city and was very loud which was to be expected outside. However, the noise from the other rooms is very noticeable as in the mornings my sister and I had to suffer through a woman having a very lovely time if you catch my drift, not that we are prudes at all, she just sounded like a dying cat the whole time.

Average (not luxury) Stay in Rome

My husband and I stayed here for three nights at the end of December. Pros: Great location. A 5 - 10 minute walk from the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, etc. Clean. Decent Wifi. Owners kept in good connection via WhatsApp (never saw them on the property, including at Check-in though) Cons: The smallest room I've ever seen (and yes, I've stayed all over Europe, including Rome). The shower was IMPOSSIBLE to shave your legs in or really even move. Four TV channels, one having the occasional English. Yes, I know you aren't here to watch TV, but watching a half hour before bed can be nice. Blatant lies about services. Their web site says you receive breakfast off-site and and my booking said breakfast included. When I asked them on WhatsApp where we could find breakfast, they said they don't offer it. They couldn't explain why my booking confirmation said that and told me the web site was an old page from old owners (yet where their new page is, I don't know). They did offer to give us cereal, but by the time we went back and forth I didn't want to bother. The point wasn't so much that we didn't get the breakfast, it was more that they kept acting like I was crazy for thinking we should get it. Overall, I would NOT stay at or recommend the "Luxury" Locanda Del Sole. We had friends staying at an AirBNB right down the road that was MUCH MUCH nicer and bigger for barely more than what we paid!

A quiet respite amid the big draws of Rome

What a find in a great location! Giorgia is a fantastic host, eager to get your visit going with a complimentary bottle of wine and a quick tour of the self-serve kitchen. The neighborhood quiets down in the evening, so outside noise was never an issue despite facing the street. Several major attractions are all within a 10-15 minute walk. A great experience overall. More interesting than bad: the walls seem fairly thin, or we just had some loud neighbors. One neighbor could be easily heard having an animated phone conversation (though the actual words were muddled). The other neighbor sounded like they were drawing on a wall-mounted chalkboard one evening. Even then, these were very short-lived episodes, and everyone in the area seems to keep to a normal day/night schedule. Just be mindful of your own noise as well, and you'll love this place.

The definition of luxury: No elevator, no service

First of all this so named luxury suite is located out of nowhere. Here is no shopping area in the neighborhood. How can you order a taxi here when there is no staff? Upon arrival at this old house we saw a small sign: " Locanda del Sole. Luxury suite Roma." With a code you can open the door to enter the house. There is no motion detector. You need to search for the light switch. There is no elevator. You can carry your heavy luggage up the stairs to reach the the so named luxury suite. The keycard for the room was laying on the korridor. So every person can take the keycard to enter the room. What will happen when some things will be taken out of the rooms from a third party and you will be kept responsible? Inside the small apartment the furniture or home decor is simple and cheap. The water fittings in the bathroom and especially in the shower cabin were not working correct and in addition difficult to handle! The floor was not cleaned. Sand was under our feet. Even the toilet was not cleaned in a correct way. The small apartment (about 15 sqm) is located directly at a narrow street. When you open the small window you can listen to the street noise. The house opposite is less than 20 meter away. From that house people can look directly into our apartment which is called " Butterfly". The AC was not working. If you do not want to bee seen by the opposite living people you need to close the shutters. This is also the best solution if you feel disturbed by the street noise. But then you need to sit in a quite dark room. The floor is made out of dark laminat. The wardrobe is small. The flat screen TV is small. With other words: I have not seen any luxury items at all! Breakfast is self service. When I wanted to check out I needed to call (phone call) the lady who is caring about the renters. Although American Express cards will be displayed on the office door it was not accepted. The Wifi-Password which is displayed in the room is not working anymore. The hand written password which we have received was containing a sign which was unknown for us. The brreakfast was a nightmare! Only things out of plastic papers. No real coffee. Even the toaster was not working. The hoover was parked on the floor in the breakfast room.

Perfect stay for Rome

In my books the innkeeper makes or breaks the visit at a B&B. In this case, Ilaria definitely made our stay wonderful. La Locanda is perfectly situated in the historic centre of Rome. Don't expect to bring a car here though as it is inside of the ZTL vehicle restricted area. The inn is situated on the second floor. It's a cute little apartment turned B&B. Coming and going is completely automated with touch key cards. The kitchen is beautiful as well, always open and available to make a nespresso and have a "dolce". Ilaria, thank you so much for making our stay in Roma "ottimo".
